FUSION - From research to market

Fusion conflates trailblazing technological approaches with the most pressing cybersecurity challenges that society and economy face in the age of digitalization. The project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

What we do

In close cooperation with its partners, Fusion aims at fostering entrepreneurial initiatives within the encompassing spectrum of privacy and cybersecurity as a transversal issue in science, society and economy. Startups and tinkerers are provided with optimal preconditions at the melting pot of academia and marketable solutions. Fusion builds a strong network for cybersecurity within the greater region and beyond.

Raise Awareness

Fusion aims at confronting market-oriented students, researchers and alumni with applied solutions. Therefore, reports and information on recent market developments are provided and challenges in technical implementations are discussed. Along with entrepreneurial and industrial experts as well as the Helmholtz Association, a fertile breeding ground for perceiving and exchanging business opportunities is created.

Encourage Tinkering

Through entrepreneurial education, team formation and project-based coaching by internal and external experts, qualitative evolvement of ideas is assured. Novel approaches are taken at the initial stage of solution development. Feedback at the individual level includes input from tech-side by world class researchers at CISPA and business-side by Fusion partners.

Promote Projects

Once the possible realization of emerging ideas has been proven, Fusion promotes the development of marketable products. Teams are supported in business development as well as in terms of useful tools and methods in product development. Through contacts to entrepreneurs at various stages within the founding process, operational challenges can be mastered.

Support Growth

An upscaling of evolved business models is facilitated by optional access to industrial network and finance partners. In addition, Fusion provides advice regarding subsidy programs, legal conditions, regulatory trends and sales. Together with its partners from entrepreneurship and industry, startups are supported by international market entry and proposed to participate at pitch events with varying scope.

Fusion supports project teams within the master’s program in Entrepreneurial Cybersecurity at Saarland University. The program teaches advanced techniques and state-of-the-art research in cybersecurity and enables students to apply and put this knowledge into practice by developing a cybersecurity project, write a proof of concept, and develop a market-ready product.
